Erasmus Semester in Alicante, Spain

My bachelor study in composition at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Munich is close to the end. I learned a lot, and I met many fantastic musicians.

Some of my classmates went to different countries during the study and I thought it might be interesting to try it too. I’ve never been in Spain! Who doesn’t like warm weather and sea? So I was lucky to be accepted by the great composer and a teacher in Alicante, Manuel Mas Devesa.

It’s my 5th month being in Alicante. I’m totally happy with the decision to come here. I’m not only having the lessons, but also it’s a great opportunity to discover new culture and new language. It inspires and refreshes a lot! It’s been a very productive time and soon it is time to go home.

Location of the Academy is very unusual, because it’s on the hill! If I had to bring laptop and violin it was a really hard mission to climb up there. But May be it has a philosophical sence: art requires sacrifice.

With Manuel Mas Devesa

During my time in Alicante, I had the pleasure of working on music for the silent film Alice’s Day at Sea by Walt Disney (1923). It was a truly special experience to engage with this early piece of animation history and reimagine it through a contemporary musical lens.

Here is a recording of the premiere performance, brought to life by the KGSO under the direction of Pavel Gershtein.
